Preparation is Key for a Successful, Long-Lasting Finish
Epoxy has a 6 hour use window once mixed. To ensure job completion within this window, assemble all needed supplies in advance:
– Wooden stir stick
– Goggles/glasses
– Latex gloves
– Lacquer thinner or isopropyl alcohol for clean up
– One of the following:
1. High-quality, 1/4″ short nap roller
2. High-quality, fine bristle varnish brush
3. Conventional or airless sprayer
Thoroughly clean all surfaces to be coated. Any debris or residue will inhibit epoxy from adhering.
-Remove all metal drains and hardware, as well as caulking around the area.
-Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper.
-Use a mold/mildew remover if necessary.
-Scrub entire surface with an abrasive cleaner and rinse completely with fresh water, ensuring all cleaner residue is removed.
To help aid adhesion of the coating, surface may need to be lightly scuffed ahead of time.
– Repair chips or cracks with patching compound.
– Prepare surface with an abrasive pad and calcium and lime remover.
– Sand surface with #400/#600 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
-Vacuum up sanding dust if needed. Rinse away any remaining residue.
-When dry, wipe surface with tack cloth to capture any remaining particulates.
Use painter’s tape, masking paper and/or tarp to cover areas you do not want coated.
In case of spills or mistakes during painting, immediately use lacquer thinner or isopropyl alcohol to remove marks.
Fast, easy application for tub and tile refinishing kit
Thoroughly mix Part B formula to disperse pigment throughout. After, pour all of Part A directly into the can with Part B and stir for at least 1 minute. Portions are premeasured.
Once mixed, combined epoxy formula has a working time of six hours. Re-cap Part B can when not in use.
Prepare roller ahead of time by removing loose fibers with painter’s tape to keep them from ending up in the finish.
Apply coating in even, overlapping strokes. Avoid excess brushing or rolling to prevent streaks and lap marks.
If needed, touch up corners and edges with a small foam brush.
Allow to dry for one hour between first and second coats. If a third coat is needed, use a second kit the following day.
Dries to the touch in 1 hour; allow 3 days before exposing to water.
